Turtle Inn in Placencia Blancaneaux Lodge which is in on the mainland back in the jungles.
I don't know if I know what a boutique hotel is, but it you are looking for a GREAT place to stay, see the link below and tell them Karl and Sandra who were with Denny and Sandy and Dave and Laura and were there the last week in March sent you.
The photos are from the resort, they are NOT fake or made up.
The Radisson and Princess Hotels are really the best options in town. The Radisson is much nicer and has better service, food and less goes wrong with the pools and room amenities.
My only advice is, please don't stay in Belize City at all. Stay in a resort on San Pedro or even better, go up to Playa Del Carmen in Mexico. Or if you want beautiful nature, head down to Roatan in Honduras instead.
I lived in Belize for 2 years before the crime, crackheads, corruption, blackouts, bad public transport, bad food and violent people gave me the shits.
Please don't get me wrong, I am a very positive person and I have travelled to over 100 countries in the world. Please take my word that there are much better places to spend your time and money.
If you still want to go, visit www.amandala.com.bz to do some research before your arrival.
there's a resort owned by the movie producer Oliver Stone in Belize. I don't remember the name of it but it's a great place to get away.
I would highly recommend Expedia.com http://www.expedia.com/ and Travelocity http://travelocity.com/. These fares are cheaper, and the service and amenities are reputable. Happy surfing.
You could try the Kismet Inn in Hopkins.
we stayed at Radisson Fort George Hotel and Marina and loved it. right on the water, 2 pools, great location. and for a great deal check out http://www.travelcusehotels.com. the site is an aggregator which means it searches other sites and presents you with the best deals available. good luck and hope this helps!
Canopy tours in the rainforest are amazing.
You probably mean TJs.
You're right, the hotels in Belize City are awful, especially the Princess. The Princess has been known to grossly overcharge guest credit cards, mine being one of them.
I try not to stay in Belize City unless I have an early morning flight. If you must stay in Belize City, stay at the Fort George Radisson. It is more expensive but it is by far the best, and most trustworthy, hotel in Belize City.
If your options are open, you really should stay out on one of the cayes. I prefer Caye Caulker because it is less expensive and there are not as many tourists. Or you should head inland and check out Caves Branch, Mountain Pine Ridge, and the rest of the Cayo district.
Crime is mostly in Belize City. I have felt very safe everywhere I have been in the country. I have talked to many people including single women that are from US and retired there. I would not recommend retiring in Belize City. Try Placencia area, Corozal, or the cayes. TACA and Continental have great air from Calif.
Lucky you!!!
I went a few years ago with a friend for 10 days, and it was under $2000 each. We split our trip 5 days on Caye Caulker, and 5 days in San Ignacio. (We also took a bus into Guatemala for one night to see the ruins at Tikal. I would HIGHLY recommend this, it was awesome, you can stay right in the national park).
We took local transportation, so no car rental needed (you can take a bus, most lodging can set up transportation for you, so check with them).
We stayed at Maya Mountain Lodge. The meals there were included and they were FANTASTIC! They also arranged some independent activities for us like canoing the Macal River, and guided tours of the Blue Hole National Park, caves, and some local ruins. Our guide was Luis, he was great!!!! At the time, it was US$50/day for a guide.
Feel free to contact me if you want more info!
Have fun!!!!! :-)
I would go to a travel agency with that crowd. I'm sure you can get some group rate. I would not even attempt to book myself. Travel agencies don't charge a fee and they are there if you have any problems.
You are NOT looking for a hotel? And you want a kid friendly environment. Is that correct?
If so try this site to rent homes/villas. They do have some 8 bedroom homes. Maybe 2 homes/villa with 8 bedrooms or 3 homes/villa with 5 bedrooms.

I am going to Belize with my boyfriend from June 18th to 28th....Any suggestions on a travel plan?
All i can say is enjoy,Belize is one of the most beautyiful places, very hot but nice and enjoy it.Take your own water.
We are staying at Coco Plum Caye next month and I cannot wait! The resort is on a private island with only 5 cabanas therefore I think the max number of visitors is something like 16. If you feel that is too small you should be able to find more suitable hotels in Placencia or Ambergis Caye. Belize is relatively safe in terms of meteorological hazards thanks to it's barrier reef that protects the country however September is the peak for Atlantic hurricane season therefore there is no guarentee (however if I had to go anywhere in September, it would be Belize).
Honestly, any Central American country could treat you like a King for that kind of money for a month, but be careful as to where your location is, for pure safety concerns (that is, if you are concerned about safety)
Here's my personal breakdown, country by country, based on the fact that you probably don't speak much Spanish. I have relatives from almost every Spanish speaking country, and I've been to many, so here's what I think.
COSTA RICA -- The tourist industry is booming here but you've mentioned you don't want to go somewhere so touristy. I would definitely recommend Escazu or some other little town; don't worry about your money, it will definitely last. Costa Rica is one of the safer countries but be aware of your surroundings, use common sense and don't flash any cameras or cash around.
NICARAGUA -- I would have to say, amid minor safety concern, this is also a good option. Grananda is a great colonial city on Lake Nicaragua; you may like it there. However, it wouldn't be in my top choices.
PANAMÁ -- This is where I would go. Have a great, relaxing vacation at Bocas del Toro or enjoy Panama City if you want the vibrant feel. For what you're looking for, the true awesome vacation experience, go to Boquete, Panama. It's a small little town with a river running through it near David, Panama, and it cannot be missed.
EL SALVADOR -- Not recommended, that's all I can say.
HONDURAS -- I love Honduras, great place, EXTREMELY CHEAP, but keep in mind that 1) it is (after Haiti) the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and 2) not speaking a word of Spanish will not help you. It is increasingly dangerous in areas, home invasions are common, and plenty of Americans haven't fared well there. That's not to say you won't enjoy Honduras, just be safe. I would not go to Roatan because there was a string of horrible home invasions there a few years ago; La Ceiba is nice, but a bigger city. Trujillo is probably a good bet, not much to do though.
BELIZE -- Definitely good for English speakers; tourist quality varies throughout the country, but this is probably one of your best bets for that experience you're looking for. Plenty of tourist companies.
As far as airfare goes, it is relatively cheap to go to Costa Rica, while places like Panama and Nicaragua might run you a few hundred bucks, depending on where you're flying out of.
Be safe, though, don't let anyone fool you. There are plenty of tourist scams.
Take care! Have fun on your trip!
I have been to Belize twice recently and stayed out on the cayes...It is beautiful there! You may know some of this info but I will tell you what I know. You do have your passport, right? Currency is easy, $2BZ to $1US. You can usually use US dollars on Ambergris and get money exchange at the banks too. Ambergris is much more developed compared to Caye Caulker where I stayed so I am not sure about bathing situations, but just so you know, the water in the bathrooms where I stayed is salt water, which after a while you get used to, so don't worry about it. Always drink bottled water there and always be sure to ask if the ice is bagged before you order a drink with ice at a restaurant.
Unless you have your own way to get around, the best means of transportation from island to island is Caye Caulker water taxi and they go back and forth to Belize City all day as well. And just so you know, San Pedro is the drop off on Ambergris caye.
As far as safety goes, as in any country, just pay attention to what is going on around you. I found almost all of the people there to be friendly and helpful, even the drug dealers who approached us were respectful and when we told them no thanks they went on thier way. I think if you go with an open mind and open heart it makes a lot of difference. I have heard of people having bad experiences on the cayes or in the city but ours was wonderful.
Cost at most restaurants is very cheap. We ate great suppers nightly for around $5.00US. Grilled chicken, grilled snapper, mashed potatoes, rice and beans, salad. We ate meat pies from the guy who sells meat pies on the corner for breakfast 5 for $2US..YUMMY. And at night the little kids come around and sell all kinds of sweets thier moms made for about $.50US. Everything was soooo tasty. Just explore and you will find your own meat pie guy! Also, if you drink beer, try the Belizean Beer, pretty darn good and cheap too.
Take lots of insect repellent. The tropical breezes keep the biting flies off of you BUT when the breeze stops, you becme a gourmet meal. You need strong stuff with DEET in it. Buy it here and take it with you cuz if you try to buy any toiletries over there it is very expensive. Remember NOT to take aresol spray repellent cuz it will leak or burst in flight. Take the pump kind.
Be sure to take in some diving and/or snorkeling to the reef and go see the rays and sharks and manatees. You simply cannot miss it.
Have fun!!!....I am so jealous right now! ;)
Yes I have been to Belize. I went in mid-November about two years ago. I went via cruise liner so I was only there for around a day though. The ship anchored just offshore of Belize City. The city is interesting. It looks like a normal downtown but there is a lot more poverty. It is quite sad. I went to the Belize Zoo which was nice but if I could go again, I would hit the cayes offshore for some of the worlds best diving and snorkelling on the Barrier Reef. Try to go with a tour guide because the roads are about 1.5 car wide but they fit two lanes of traffic on them! Also, the gas is about 4-5 USD per gallon and there are many military checkpoints along the roads as soon as you leave the city itself. I hope this helps somewhat. Have a great trip!!!
